I am a truck driver by trade and as a result in order to maintain my Commercial Driving Licence I am required to pass a DOT Physical periodically. In my case yearly due to taking blood pressure medication. Maximum of two years for drivers who do not have any issues. Over the years the regulations have gotten stricter on DOT Physicals. I am very mindful of the fact that anytime I go in for a DOT Physical, my entire career is on the line. Also when I see a doctor I am afraid of an adverse diagnosis which would ground me, possibly for life. The FMCSA has instituted a registry and only physicians who have passed a test and are on that registry are now legally able to preform DOT Physicals and that is no doubt an attempt to curb a doctor shopping by drivers looking for doctors who would be more lenient.
